New Bearkeepers
Thu 27th Aug 2009
Thanks to everyone who voted for the two new Bearkeepers yesterday and we are pleased to announce that the positions have been filled by the following people…

Bearkeeper Hannah
Hannah has become a Bearkeeper who is solely in charge of looking after The Bears. She will be responsible for ensuring The Bears don’t get into any mischief and making sure they do not become bored. Bored Bears usually means trouble so she will be the one responsible for observing The Bears on a daily basis and keeping them entertained. She will also have to keep an eye open for any illnesses or injuries amongst The Bears and call the Veterinarian if required.
It can be very challenging working with Renault Bears, since there are so few in the wild and can be very difficult to breed in captivity. She will be the one who handles the day to day care of The Bears and keeps up with everything that’s going on and to manage all the animal care issues that arise.

Bearkeeper Ashley
Ashley has become a Bearkeeper who is responsible for feeding them their favourite Jammy Toast and ensuring they get their full dietary requirements. Many of The Bears like a cup of tea and she will be the one required to supply this.
Making a Bear feel good and having them recognize you as their caregiver is very rewarding as Ashley will find out. Working with our Bears up close is a real thrill, and enjoying the animals’ individual personalities and behaviors and learning new things about them every day is fun and exciting.
It just remains for us to welcome Hannah and Ashley to the team and thanks to everyone who applied and to those who voted for them.
Who Should We Hire?
Wed 26th Aug 2009
We would like to thank those who sent us applications for the two vacancies we have here at The Bear Sanctuary. Rather than have us make a decision we thought it would only be fair if we left it up to the Registered Friends to vote for who they think should get the jobs.
So lets have a look who is in the running…
Ashley: Ashley has applied for the job of Jammy Toast Maker and from what she tells us about her cooking tastes it would definitely not be boring with her around. She particularly likes Blackcurrant and Kewi Jam and seems to be an expert on the toast making from her description. She has also told The Bears about her Potato and Gravy Butties which has one or two of them licking their lips. Judging from some of the comments she leaves on the Blog; Ashley can also be a little bit strange – which should fit in perfectly around here!
Ananasty: Ananasty does visit The Blog a great deal from what she tells us and her behaviour has improved since the days when she caused mayhem. She says she is a reformed character although she hasn’t actually told us which job she is applying for. She has proven pretty good at spotting Bears on eBay and one or two in charity shops who have needed rescuing.
Hannah: Hannah definitely sounds like she is qualified for the job of Bearkeeper because she has an Animal Management NVQ Level 3 from Warwickshire College and has three years experience as a volunteer with the RSPCA.
Beckie: Beckie (or should that be Beckieeeeeeeeee) has no experience whatsoever but would certainly teach The Bears how to have an attitude and how to add lots of letters to the end of their names. Just how useful it would be to give The Bears even more attitude than they already have is open to debate!
Those are the contenders for the current vacancies. All Registered Friends are allowed two votes, one for each vacancy, and we would like you to pick who you think is the best person for the two jobs. While it is allowed for you to vote for yourself, we are only allowing Registered Friends to vote to stop certain people from inventing voters who we have never heard of before.
Cast your votes in the comments section and may the best people win!
The Bears Act To Improve Staff Behaviour
Tue 25th Aug 2009
After thinking it all over and holding a meeting last night, The Bears have decided what they are going to do concerning the behaviour and attendance of certain members of staff.
Bearkeeper Amie: It has been decided after reviewing her performance to dispense with the services of Amie and so she is dismissed from her duties with immediate effect. It is totally unfair to leave poor defenceless Bears in charge of dangerous electrical appliances like a toaster. So in the words of Sir Alan Sugar; Amie… your Fired!!
Bearkeeper Andrea: The Bears are really pleased with the way Andrea is controlling behaviour on the blog in her current roll. When she is around nobody misbehaves because they are all scared of repercussions from the Kirkby Killer. After discussing her situation, The Bears feel she has served her apprenticeship well and should from this moment forth become; Blog Security Officer. Well done, Andrea – The Bears are proud of you and we all hope you keep up the good work.
Bearkeeper Linzi: Many of The Bears wanted to sack Linzi too because of the amount of Poop that has been piling high around here. For two reasons though, The Bears decided that Linzi should have one final chance. The first reason was, when Linzi was contacted and told about the Poop Mountain she did at least race round to the Bear Sanctuary with her Marigolds and her Dust Buster and tried to make things right. The second reason was a little Bear by the name or Razzi put in a good word for her and we didn’t really want to upset Razzi. However, we do feel some punishment is only right for failing to keep on top of the Poop. It has been decided that all Bearkeeper duties will be removed from Linzi and she will solely be in charge of Poop. We are also cutting her salary in half until her efforts improve. From now on Linzi will be known as Poopa Scoopa Linzi, The Poopa Scoopa Operator.
This now leaves The Bear Sanctuary short of staff and so we have decided we need another Bearkeeper and a replacement Jammy Toast Maker. If anyone is interested please leave your details, and the reason why you think you would be good in the job you want, in the comments section and we will be in touch shortly.
It’s Time Things Changed!
Mon 24th Aug 2009
It has come to our attention that some members of staff, despite previous warnings, are still not pulling their weight around here. We decided to check up on the attendance of our Bearkeepers to see just how they were performing with their perspective tasks. These are the latest performance figures…
Bearkeeper Amie: (This month’s Attendance: 0/24) Amie has not shown her face on the blog since 21st July. This is over a month where the poor Bears have had to make their own Jammy Toast and poor Eleanor even burnt her paws on the toaster. This is just not good enough. The Bears should never be left to make their own toast and it is very distressing to hear that this has now become normal procedure.
Bearkeeper Andrea: (This month’s Attendance: 16/24) Despite the fact Andrea has been on holiday, she has still managed to turn up for work on 16 days this month and all visitors to the blog are kept in order. Nobody has dared to put a foot wrong for fear of reprisals from Andrea. We have to say we are all very pleased with Andrea’s performance lately. We feel a promotion is on the cards.
Bearkeeper Linzi: (This month’s Attendance: 5/24) The poop is mounting at the Bear Sanctuary as Linzi’s attendance is nearly as bad as Amie’s. When she does turn up for work she is wearing a Banana Suit and nearly demolishes the place trying to change her display picture. Furthermore, Linzi was recently given a new brush and pan to aid her job performance but this has not helped at all as they are sitting here totally untouched. We feel that Linzi’s heart is just not in Poopa Scooping.
Action needs to be taken and it needs to be taken quickly to prevent further injury or unsanitary conditions for The Bears. If anyone has any suggestions then we would like to hear them. Will think we should let the Friends Of The Bears have their say before any action is taken. Please if you have a suggestion then leave it in the comments section and we will read through them tomorrow and decide upon what course of action is open to us.
It’s time things changed, and for the better!
