Razzi Falls Victim Of Phishing Scam
Thu 1st Jul 2010
Poor little Razzi was distraught this morning when he checked his email. Being a very meticulous little Bear, he likes to keep up with his correspondence because he hates to keep his fans waiting for a reply. This morning however, we knew something was wrong straight away. He had only been at the computer for a few seconds when his face took on a worried look and he let out a little perturbed sigh. What could be wrong with him we all thought?
Razzi called Edward over and showed him an email he had just received…
We all looked at each other. How could anyone stoop so low as to try to perform credit card fraud on a young unsuspecting Bear? Razzi is very trusting and we would hate to think of anyone even attempting to take advantage of his good nature.
Just as we were about to ring the bank and demand an explanation, Edward started to ask a few questions. He asked Razzi did he even have a credit card because as far as we knew Razzi hides his pocket money under his bed and hates to actually part with any of it except in an emergency. Razzi admitted not only did he not have a credit card but also he was not entirely sure what one was.
Edward went further and asked Razzi did he actually have a bank account with HSBC? Razzi explained that he does not really trust banks because he likes to store his money where he can keep an eye on it, preferably in the glass jar underneath his bed.
Edward laughed and told Razzi that he had been the victim of a Phishing Scam. He explained that this is where someone criminally attempts to obtain usernames, passwords or even credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy bank or building society.
So there we have it, some low life out there is trying to swindle a Teddy Bear! Razzi is not very pleased and Granny has promised him some extra Jammy Toast today to cheer him up. Razzi said later that it is just as well we have Edward around because; after all, he is smarter than the average Bear!
Is Granny Right?
Sat 22nd May 2010
Most of The Bears feel today is too hot for blogging. No one could be bothered to think of anything to blog about and many of The Bears refused to move out of the sun. As far as we are aware, Bears do not get sunburn because their fur protects them from the sun. Therefore, they are lazing around the Bear Sanctuary soaking up the rays while the sun is out.
I was asking what I should blog about today when Edward reminded me of what Granny had said yesterday. Maybe it would be a good idea to ask our Friends what they think about her comments.
This week, we have featured a couple of stories concerning Granny’s fragile mental state. We have pointed out how forgetful she is getting and she does not like it. Finally, last night she said that no one is interested in what we put on the blog our Friends only use it as a place to chatter and take no notice of what we say or of her slow, meandering decline into a scatterbrained chasm.
Are you interested in what we blog about (including Granny’s recent forgetfulness) or is this site just somewhere for people to chat bubbles?
So tonight, we are asking you the question; is Granny Right?
Fur Better Or Worse
Mon 3rd May 2010
Speaking personally, I think everyone knows how much I like my Bears. I go to work with Razzi every day and there is nothing I enjoy more than spending an evening in front of the telly with the rest of the clan. Edward and I often surf the internet together and since her arrival at the Bear Sanctuary Easter does love to sit next to me no matter what I am doing. However, I do not think I would ever want to marry one of the Bears – and I doubt they would even have me.
This is not the case with a man from Germany who has unofficially married his cat!
The man was told by a vet that his cat was very ill and may not live much longer. Therefore, Uwe Mitzscherlich, who is 39 years old, married the cat in an unofficial ceremony. He could only marry the cat unofficially because it is illegal to marry an animal in Germany.
Mr Mitzscherlich said he wanted to tie the knot before his asthmatic cat died. The happy couple have lived together for over 10 years. Uwe, who is a postal worker from the East German town of Possendorf, said; “Cecilia is such a trusting creature. We cuddle all the time and she has always slept in my bed.”
Christin-Maria Lohri, who officiated at the ceremony, said; “At first I thought it was a joke. But for Mr Mitzscherlich, it’s a dream come true.”
Dolores
Fri 19th Mar 2010
Sorry, there was no post yesterday but Razzi and I were working late again last night and we just did not have time. To make up for it we thought we would post early today before we start work. This is true dedication if you ask me!
On Wednesday, we told you about poor Dolores losing her fur and looking rather sad and pathetic. As soon as he heard the news, Edward was shocked. He told us that in his opinion it is the fault of the zoo. Leipzig has a cold climate, being situated in East Germany, and Spectacled Bears – also called Andean Bears – are from a tropical climate. Edward said, “I think that feeding and climate can both be to blame with keeping tropical animals in our colder climate. These poor Bears need to be kept indoors within an imitation tropical climate with a warm temperature, high humidity and with straw for bedding. Furthermore, these Bears are used to having a seasonal pattern not just with climate but also with their behaviour and food. Zoos are not very good at imitating natural seasonality.”
Edward went on to explain that if the Bears are put on a more natural, seasonal diet and kept in a tropical climate their fur would grow back without the help of any medicines currently being tried by the zoos.
We shall keep an eye on Leipzig Zoo and hope they will take up the advice offered by Edward; after all, he is smarter than the average Bear.
Our Bears #2 – Edward Bear
Tue 16th Mar 2010
Today we are continuing our series of articles telling you all about our individual Bears. From time-to-time, we choose one of our Bears and tell you all about them. What makes them tick, what they like doing and anything else we think would be of interest to you all…
…today we are featuring Edward Bear. Edward is the brains of the outfit and is often the Bear all the others turn to for advice. He is a wise Bear with a vast knowledge of many things but he really excels with his computer skills. He is the Bear who helps run the blog and works closely with Egginanoo who does the artwork. He is quite adept at PHP programming and CSS design. He is indeed a clever Bear. It was Edward’s idea last year that we transfer the blog over to WordPress because of its flexibility allowing us to do whatever we want with our blog.
Edward has also spent time teaching some of the other Bears to read and write. He runs lessons each day and has even tried to persuade Razzi to join in without any luck.
Edward plays an active role in helping to save other Renault Bears. He helps Davidd search the Internet and eBay for unwanted Bears and helps negotiate their release. He is quite often the first Bear to offer the hand of friendship to new Bears and helps them settle into their new home.
He is the only Bear to go to university and for Edward it was not just any old place. Edward was educated at Cambridge University and still to this day wears his old Cambridge tie. He loves reading and follows politics very closely but insists he is not that clever and maintains it is the other Bears who are just a little thick! He is often heard to say, “I am smarter than the average Bear… didn’t someone else once say that?” It has become his little joke.
With all the work Edward does around the Bear Sanctuary we have to agree… he is smarter than the average Bear!
Ekkard and Emory
Wed 10th Mar 2010
We did not get many suggestions the other day for names for our later Bears, in fact, only two people bothered to make any suggestions. This did not please our new friends at all, so Edward taught them how to use the Internet and search for their own Bear names.
The first Bear, who came from Nancy down in Spalding, Lincolnshire, decided he quite liked the sounds of Ekkard. This is a German name derived from the elements “Ekka” meaning “Edge” and “Hard” meaning “Brave” or “Hardy”. He decided he liked this straight away and has now had it etched onto his little Renault label.
The second Bear was a little harder to please and he has been searching for a long time before coming up with a name he liked. After much searching, he decided he liked the name Emory. He had no reason for liking it other than the fact he liked the sound of it. It is and English name introduced to England by the Normans.
We would like to ask in future could we make a more concerted effort to help our new Bears find a names. Thanks to the couple of people who did make suggestions, we did pass on your suggestions and they were considered.
All is quiet now and there are currently no more Bears on the way to us. Ebay is quiet and none of our network of contacts has any in the pipeline. Therefore, please keep your eyes open in Charity shops around the country and if you spot an unwanted Renault Bear then please let us know.
And remember, let’s be careful out there!
Edward Wins Out In The End
Sat 23rd Jan 2010
Most of the Bears and Edward in particular, do not like to lose an argument.
Those of you who have been following The Bear Blog for some time may remember that its web address used to be http://renaultbears.com until we had a row with our former hosting company (Weycrest) and cancelled our agreement with them. Once we did that, and moved to our current hosts (Just Host), they refused to transfer over our domain name and we had to start using http://savetherenaultbears.com. We have missed our old domain name and have felt a great deal of resentment towards Weycrest for not releasing it when we requested.
This Tuesday (19th Jan), the Bears received an email from Weycrest asking us to pay £9.39 to renew our domain name with them. As you can imagine, Edward told them to go and do one as their refusal to release our domain name had caused us a great deal of upheaval. It had even meant The Bear Blog was unavailable for nearly a week. Weycrest replied asking what was our problem as they were unaware there had even been a problem. Edward explained it to them and expressed his disgust with the way they had handled the whole business.
The next day (20th Jan), we received another email from Weycrest stating that we were mistaken and that they had agreed to us moving the domain and had changed the administration email address to one of our own to facilitate the move months ago. Edward was having none of it. He went online and contacted nominate, the people who administer domain names, and they told us that Weycrest had indeed changed the administration email address… the day before on the 19th.
They really are contemptible. Last year they ignored our requests to release our domain name and now this year they do it sneakily and try to pretend they had done it months ago. They would probably get away with it with most people but Edward is smarter than the average Bear.
We have now purchased the domain name again which means that the Bear Blog is available on both domain names. Therefore, our blog is available at http://savetherenaultbears.com AND at http://renaultbears.com.
On a final note, we would like to stress that while the level of service we received from Weycrest was shocking, the service and help we have received from Just Host in resolving this problem has been brilliant. Everything they do just works and their communication with us is the best. Thanks a lot people, we really appreciate it.
So remember, you have to get up very early in the morning to outsmart Edward!
