Our Bears #3 – Egginanoo
Mon 5th Apr 2010
Today we are continuing our series of articles telling you all about our individual Bears. From time-to-time, we choose one of our Bears and tell you all about them. What makes them tick, what they like doing and anything else we think would be of interest to you all so for Bank Holiday Monday we thought we would feature Egginanoo.
We first noticed Egginanoo sitting on a window-ledge posing for a picture to place her on eBay. She lived in Newton Abbott down in Devon, although we are unsure exactly where she came from before that. After winning the auction for her, there was no one at home when the Postman tried to deliver her. Therefore, we got the red card through the door and had to wait until the next morning.
The next day we rushed down to the Sorting Office to collect the parcel but when we got it, we were a little disappointed. This could not be Egginanoo because the parcel was so small. It could not possibly be a Bear. I was tempted to give it a shake and ask if anyone was inside but enough people think I have Mental Health Issues without letting the Post Office think I need locking away!
I opened the box and could not describe how shocked I was. There, squeezed into the smallest box possible, was a totally fed up Bear. She spent the day with Razzi and me and, despite being a little shell-shocked; by the time we got home, she was coming round a little.
The next shock came at mealtime when she told us she did not like Jammy Toast! To this day, we have not found another Bear who does not eat Jammy Toast. She did explain that Jam was full of sugar and that Bears had to watch their waistline. This helped us think of a name for her, as she preferred Egg on Toast.
She quickly became friends with Edward and we discovered she had quite an artistic streak. Edward is great at computer projects but he is not a very artistic Bear. Egginanoo is the perfect counterfoil to work on our Website. Edward does all the coding and puts everything together while Egginanoo does all the design and artwork.
Since her arrival in January 2008, she has worked on every design we have used on Blogger and now on our own, hosted site using WordPress.
Despite her condition on arrival, she has matured into a wonderful little Bear who is happy to help anyone. She even made a video for our two Spanish Bears, Enrique and Enriquo, to help them settle in.
All-in-all, she is an all round good Egg!
Latest Bear News…

Some of you may have noticed we have had a little bit of a tidy up around the blog. We had fallen behind slightly with updates on our Mystique theme and so last night we upgraded it to the very latest version. There are some fun new gadgets included in the latest theme and some bugs have been ironed out by Milenko over at digitalnature.
Amongst some of the new features included in the latest theme is the use of “timesince” dates on subscriber comments. Pretty much the same as you see on Facebook, all comments now record how long ago the comment was made instead of the exact time it was added. A nice little touch is the inclusion of a little country flag next to your comments. Many of the updates are to do with speed of loading, which, as far as we can tell, seems to have made the blog feel more responsive and the pages load quicker. There is also the promise of a Facebook connector above the menus to add to the Twitter and RSS Feeds connectors already in place.
Not to be outdone by the update, Egginanoo (who does all our artwork) decided it was time to change the colour scheme. She has decided to give us a more dulled down grey scheme instead of the blue one we were using. She even let Razzi pick the flock wallpaper for the background. This had quite a good effect because it took his mind off the loss of his beloved Debbie!
All seems to be quiet on the new arrivals front. eBay is unusually quiet which could be the time of year or could mean we will soon be inundated with new Bears. You never can tell.
While updating the blog, I was looking back at some of the older posts and noticed that it is over three years now since our first Bear, Eddie, came to join us. Little did we think when we embarked on our first Egyptian adventure with Eddie how far this Bear fixation would go? Eddie does not live with us at the Bear Sanctuary; instead, he lives with Pixy and has only just returned from a Christmas/New Year break in Cuba. While there, he was only a few miles away from Haiti when the earthquake hit the island. However, maybe that is a story for another day…

Edward hard at work on the new blog theme
As most of you must know by now, Edward is a Bear who gets bored quite easily and tends to like working on projects. The last few days he has been really quiet and while the rest of the Bears look forward to getting their Easter Eggs, Edward has been busy with his latest project. Now we are happily settled into the new blog Edward decided he wanted to work on a new theme for it. So the last couple of nights he has been burning the midnight oil working on the code with the help from Egginanoo for the artwork.
So this afternoon, he presented us with the new theme and we all loved it straight away.
The new theme is based on an original from Templatelite called MouseIT and we all loved it and just wanted to say well done Edward, you have done it again!
I wonder how long this one will last before he gets bored with it again?
