Sue Finds Another Bear
Mon 9th Nov 2009
Last night, just before I was about to head up the wooden hill to bed, I thought I would just check my emails prior to lights out. What a surprise I got and more to the point what a surprise Elric is in for. Here is the email I found…
Dave,
I hope you get this e-mail. You bought a Renault bear from me via eBay in April 2008. I kept the web site entry re the bear, but unfortunately, you have moved sites, so I cannot access or tell what you named him. You made me laugh as the bear was given a wide berth by the other bears, because he had a quick wash and smelt of roses, well comfort actually.
It was so good to see he had gone to a good home, that I promised myself that if I ever saw another one, I would do likewise. And yes, I have found him a play mate, called Lopply Sue. I am sure she is his sister because she smells just like him! If you can let me know your address, I will pop her into the post before Postman Pat goes on strike again,
I have seen your new site and it really does cheer me up, I do still think you are mad but keep up with it.
Very best wishes
Sue from sunny St Albans.
My first thoughts were ones of shock – I mean how dare this woman call me mad! Here is a woman who puts poor defenceless Renault Bears in a washing machine on a cool wash! How dare she call me mad, I have a good mind to report her to the RSPCA.
After I got over the initial shock (I did laugh out loud, really) I sent Sue an email back thanking her and providing her with the address for the Birkenhead Bear Sanctuary. Tonight when me and Razzi got in from work we had another little email waiting for us…
Dave,
I am so glad Elric has settled in so well. He will be over the moon to be reunited with his long lost sister, he would have forgotten about the episode involving the worms!
I will send Lopply Sue by post today, she should arrive by Thursday at the latest. It was kind of you to offer to cover the postage, but to be honest, in this world of doom and gloom, you and your bears bring a warmth that I cannot put into words, so I will continue to look for long lost relatives and keep your address handy. This afternoon, I will check out your website fully and no doubt will laugh my little cotton socks off.
Do keep up the good work.
Very best wishes
Sue from sunny St Albans.
It really was nice to hear from Sue and even better that she has found Elric’s long lost sister but all we want to know is: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE WORMS? Knowing Sue’s antics of old, I almost shudder to think what could have happened to poor Elric involving worms. I shall email her now once all The Bears have had their Jammy Toast for tea.
Finally, if any of you sees Elric around don’t say a word… we are keeping this a secret from him and we shall have a grand reunion on Thursday.
…and hey, let’s be careful out there!
Email From Elric’s Mum
Fri 3rd Apr 2009
Sue from St Albans, Elric’s former Mummy, has sent us a lovely email after she was enquiring as to whether Elric had found a good home or not. I emailed her telling her of our work rescuing unwanted Renault Bears and this is what she had to say…
Dave, you are totally and utterly mad, but I love it!!
I am glad Elric has found a very good home, I did put him on a very very gentle wash, just really to do behind his ears, and I thought he looked very dapper afterwards.
Thank you Dave, you made me smile,
very best wishes
Sue
I have no idea what she means about the mad bit, but we always like to bring a laugh to everyone here at the Bear Sanctuary. It is also reassuring to know that Elric only had a gentle wash but he is getting some stick from the other Bears for smelling of fabric conditioner!!
St Albans Bear Becomes Elric
Wed 1st Apr 2009
Just to keep everyone up to date the new Bear from St Albans has decided, mostly because no one has come up with a name for him, his new name will be Elric. He chose this name after Elric of Melniboné, a fictional character created by Michael Moorcock, and the antihero of a series of fantasy books centring in the world of Melniboné.
The Lord of Dragons, Elric’s thoughts
Were of quests to far off lands
The Black Sword was at his side
Murmuring in its scabbard cold
Waiting for the moment to arrive
To drink the very essence of soul
And he’s frozen in a time trap
Slowly losing power
And he’s frightened if he makes a move
The dream will soon turn sour
We obviously have a science-fiction nut of a Bear on our hands!
